Keyboarding instruction begins formally in fourth grade.  Many students have already developed a keyboarding technique that looks nothing like traditional touch-typing, so they have to unlearn these habits,which can be quite frustrating.  We use a combination of direct teacher instruction with drills and a program, Type to Learn 3.     ASDF JKL: This is where touch typing begins and is probably the hardest lesson to learn, especially if students have already developed their own style of typing. Why learn touch typing?  It is difficult at first, but it is really the fastest way to type because you don't have to look at the keyboard.  This will come in handy when you are typing a handwritten document and need to keep your eyes on it as you type.    The Home Row - where it all begins! →homepage
